Nigerian Women Leaders Converge In Turkey On Leadership Etiquette Workshop For Nation Building

The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs in collaboration with Prime Unique Women Initiative (PUWI) organized the workshop which focused on Redefining Standards for Leadership Etiquette.

The theme of the workshop was a sharp and precise description of the program “Redefining Standards”

 

Women are the fulcrum of development in societies. The workshop commenced with an official ceremony with the Honorable Minister of Women Affairs Dame Pauline Tallen OFR, KSG ably represented by Engr. Adebiyi Olufunsho the Permanent Secretary of the ministry.

 

During the keynote address, the Honorable Minister reminded delegates of the importance of such workshops and charged them to make useful tools from lessons learnt to develop their leadership capacity. Attached to this report is a full note of the Honorable Minister speech.

 

The permanent secretary Engr. Olufunsho Adebiyi also charged the delegates to adopt new strategies learnt from the programme to sharpen their leadership skills.

 

The convener of the workshop Dr. Folake Yobah FIMC,CMC described the program as the meeting of the minds “Consesus Ad Idem” sighting women as key actors in developing leadership. She also told participants to brace up and engage in all activities lined up during the workshop.

 

Prominent amongst the participants were leaders of delegation led by the Wife of Chief of Defense Staff [CDS] Barr. (Mrs) Victoria Irabor, her counter part from the Army, Navy and other groups were on hand to render thought provoking goodwill messages to set the climate for the workshop.

PAPER I : 90 + 90 + 1 theory

Dr. Elhadary Tariq spoke on Designing Innovative Leadership Etiquette. During his presentation he sighted the latest leadership tools and topics relevant for team leads: –

“The 90 + 90 + 1theory”

“The yes trap”

“The not to do list”

 

He charged participants to focus on new dynamics in todays emerging world, demand innovative leadership skills as a prerequisite for results not reasons.

PAPER III : Tools and Best Practice For Effective Leaders

Dr. Tariq Elhadary presented tools needed for a better leadership including: –

“The not to do list”

“The Alpen method”

“The pareto principle”

“The smart formula”

“The Blocking method”

“The salami technique”

“The Time Dairy”

 

Very interesting and interactive session with divers’ inputs and suggestions.

DAY 2

PAPER IV : Emotional Intelligence Investment

Mr. Moyosore Charles a seasoned investment expert took the spell bound audience to a dynamic world of investment stating the need for women to invest and support their families.

 

PAPER VI : Trust as Aspect of Successful Leadership

Dr. Anna Maria Invited on trust as a critical part of any success story bothering on leadership.

 

Trust as a major part of leading people and also being trusted to lead.

The Permanent Secretary Engr. Adebiyi Olufunsho led the discussion session to deliberate on all the topics with all resource persons fully involved.

 

Also on the card was a free discussion session on “Why Domestic Violence is on the Rise”. Why do we have more widows than widowers? All participants discussed intensely.

 

The highlight of the workshop was the evening Gala And Certificate Presentation Ceremony. Participants were also engaged in visits and tours to places of interest.

 

Many of the participants praised the quality of the workshop and promised to engage more women in leadership development. Others requested for the organizers to arrange more workshops like this both local and international to support and build the capacity of more women.

 

CONCLUSION

Dr. Folake Yobah FIMC,CMC, the convener of the workshop in her vote of thanks appreciated the Honorable Minister Dame Pauline Tallen for her visionary approval of the workshop and also praised the Perm Secretary Engr. Adebiyi Olufunsho, the Presidents of DEPOWA, NAOWA, NOWA, NAFOWA, FOWA, leaders from NNPC, FIRS, NIWA etc for their contribution and involvement in the program.

 

All participants were negative to Covid 19 test and all have since returned safely to Nigeria.

 

COMMUNIQUE

  • Request was made for women leaders to meet periodically for programmes like this home and abroad to galvanize best practices.

 

  • More education for women on domestic violence should be hyped more aggressively.

 

  • The media should be fully involved in sensitization.
